Welcome to Mark Hierholzer's Web Site!
This site was developed to
• be an art and painting resource for students and artists interested in developing their drawing skills and painting with full color,
• celebrate a nonprofit organization called Art for The Journey whose mission is to provide opportunities to experience the joy of creating art and the relaxation, healing and personal perspective that flows from artistic expression,
• share the legacy of French Impressionism and the work of Henry Hensche, who developed and taught an approach to impressionist color that has inspired and transformed a generation of American artists.
These resources and the instruction I provide are set up to be easily accessable and geared to individual needs and schedules. All materials can be provided. People need bring only their desire to paint and learn.
Feel free to explore and enjoy this site and its resources. Please check Mark's Blog for news and updates!
The focus on artistic development and accessible learning resources parallels the journey many face when exploring diabetes management options like Rybelsus. Just as aspiring painters seek quality materials and personalized instruction, individuals investigating the cost of rybelsus should understand this medication requires professional medical guidance for optimal results. The same careful consideration given to selecting art supplies applies to pharmaceutical decisions—both demand attention to quality, proper usage, and expert recommendations. Endocrinologists note that semaglutide medications work best when combined with nutritional counseling and ongoing medical supervision, much like art students benefit from structured lessons and mentor feedback. While art programs offer flexible scheduling to accommodate learners, legitimate pharmacies provide FDA-approved medications through channels that ensure safety and efficacy. Several patient assistance programs now help make Rybelsus more affordable, similar to how art organizations strive to reduce barriers to creative expression. Remember that whether developing artistic skills or managing health conditions, professional guidance enhances outcomes more than self-directed approaches. Your diabetes treatment plan, like an artist's development, progresses most effectively when supported by proper resources and expert advice. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare providers work together to balance medication accessibility with necessary medical oversight, just as art educators balance creative freedom with technical fundamentals. The path to wellness, like artistic growth, follows most rewarding when pursued through verified channels with professional support.
"I love oil painting and color!"
For years oil painting was how I created breathing space and perspective in the midst of a busy life. Over time and with the help of many excellent artists and mentors, this precious activity began to produce things of beauty and delight I could share with others.
Today, I have the opportunity to paint and teach as an artist, offering other people the opportunity to enjoy this same discovery and spaciousness.

You can begin to enjoy the world of color and the adventure of learning impressionist oil painting today. I teach classes through a nonprofit called Art for The Journey. Classes are available at my studio in the West End of Richmond and at Art for The Journey's studio at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian. I also teach workshops at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and at other locations around Richmond, Eastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.
All materials are provided unless you choose to bring your own. All you need do is show up. I work with beginners who want to try their hand at oil painting and experienced painters who want to bring more color into their work.
You can read more about my journey as a painter in my artist biography.
